This is a brief diary, but if anyone is left in the world who doesn't think LGBTQE people need to be protected from discrimination at all levels of society:
Human Rights Campaign: Sneak Attack In North Carolina General Assembly Puts LGBT Rights At Risk
The NC General Assembly, in short, is trying to push through legislation that would prohibit local municipalities from adopting ordinances in the areas of minimum wages, housing and rental policies (including affordable housing), and "provision of goods, services, or accommodation to any member of the public by nongovernmental businesses".
The first two are heinous and obviously affect all citizens of North Carolina. But let's be real here: The last point is there for right-wingers to "stick it" to the LGBTQE community after our Big Marriage Equality Win.
After all: If right-wingers don't have someone to hate and fear, how will they get through the day?!
Every time I hear someone say, "Oh, but North Carolina is a purple state! We're just a hair away from being progressive!", something like this happens. One step forward, sixteen steps back in some states.
The right-wing War on Women is rightfully taking up a lot of attention. But this bit of outrage needs to be fought back, and then we need to take up the fight for a national ENDA. With teeth. And while we're at it, WHY can't we get an Equal Rights Amendment finally passed?!?!?
